Shanghai Optical Instrument No. 5 Factory Co., Ltd. (formerly Shanghai Optical Instrument Factory, founded in 1953) is one of China’s well-known opto-mechanical factories of its early industrial era. The company specializes in the production of precision optical instruments and optical component processing.
The main product range includes: measuring and testing instruments, microscopes, and optical devices for physics, analytics, medicine, education, and other fields.
Main Achievements
- In scientific research and education: since its establishment, the factory has achieved 107 scientific research results, 35 of which are at the national level. The company has also manufactured educational equipment and training materials.
- In the defense industry: the company designed and produced periscopes for military submarines, variable-magnification command sights for anti-aircraft guns, and made a significant contribution to national defense development.

- In the field of innovation: among the company’s breakthroughs are China’s first fluorescent cervical cancer detector, the first universal tool microscope, and an electron microscope with 100,000-times magnification.
