The IRS TriplexPro‑210 plasma gun is a modern atmospheric plasma gun (APS) based on a three‑cathode arc technology with a cascaded arrangement of anodes. The key design feature is the division of the total current into three independent arcs, each burning between its own cathode and a common anode‑nozzle. A series of electrically isolated intermediate inserts (cascades) fixes the arc length and stabilizes its combustion. This design solution enables an exceptionally stable, quasi‑laminar plasma flow with minimal voltage fluctuations, which dramatically improves the reproducibility of spraying results from cycle to cycle and ensures uniform heating and acceleration of powder particles. The plasma gun is designed exclusively for stationary, mechanically mounted installation on manipulators or industrial robots.
Thanks to the use of three independent arcs, the plasma gun generates a symmetrical plasma plume. Material injection is provided by three radial injectors positioned at 120 degrees relative to each other, which optimizes powder delivery into the high‑temperature core of the plume and ensures uniform heating even for refractory materials. By varying the combination of interchangeable supersonic nozzles, powder feed rings, and injectors, it is possible to widely adjust the plasma velocity and temperature, adapting the process to specific tasks. The technology enables spraying of virtually all types of powder materials, including metals, alloys, carbides, and oxide ceramics. Argon, helium, nitrogen, and hydrogen are used as plasma‑forming gases. For many applications, operation on pure argon without helium is possible, which significantly reduces operating costs.
The technical specifications of the plasma torch confirm its high performance and versatility. The plasma torch can operate at a maximum power of up to 65 kW in standard mode and up to 90 kW in high‑speed spraying mode. It allows accelerating powder particles to speeds of up to 550 m/s and heating them to temperatures of up to 3500 °C. The weight of the plasma torch itself is 2{,}6 kg. For stable and prolonged operation, intensive water cooling is required with a water flow rate of at least 18 l/min at an inlet temperature of 18–22 °C, while the water electrical conductivity must not exceed 5 µS/cm.
