Dosing system for part processing in vibratory finishing machines
Selecting the right compound dosing system is crucial for achieving the desired result. Today, most compounds are supplied in liquid form.
In industrial applications, three compound dosing systems are most commonly used.
Batch dosing system
This method involves periodically adding concentrated compound to the overall mass of water, media, and parts. Usually, the drain remains closed until the cycle is completed. After the process is finished, the drain is opened and the media are rinsed with clean water.
Flow-through dosing system
This system is also known as an open-loop advanced recirculation system.
This method is the most effective for processing parts that require strict quality standards. In the flow-through dosing system, the liquid continuously flows into and out of the machine. Therefore, the water level inside the vibratory bowl is maintained at a constant level. Both water and compound are constantly renewed in the bowl, while the used solution drains out along with dirt and sludge removed from the parts.
After polishing, part surfaces become more glossy than when using the other two dosing systems.
Closed-loop recirculation system
Recirculation reduces emissions generated during the vibratory finishing process. The recirculation system includes compound drainage, a filtration system, and a compound dosing unit.
Since a portion of the compound settles out during each cycle, a small amount of compound must be added every cycle. A closed-loop recirculation system is also used in areas where wastewater treatment costs are high.
This system helps save both water and compound. However, part surfaces do not become as glossy as when using the second system. Since parts from this system are less shiny, they may require additional finishing.
Let’s present the comparison of dosing systems in a table:
| Dosing system | Water consumption | Compound consumption | Workplace setup requirements | Part processing quality |
| Batch dosing system | Medium | Medium | Low | Medium |
| Flow-through dosing system | High | High | High | High |
| Closed-loop recirculation system | Low | Low | High | Medium |
